Nutrition and allergen policy: how this site reads Chipotle’s records

Every nutrition figure on this site is Chipotle’s own record from its calculator or printed sheet, every allergen mark is its chart row or, for parts without a row, its tag labeled as such, and every plate total is a named sum of parts; the site prints the brand’s caveats and calls nothing safe.

Three sources, printed as three things

Every nutrition figure on this site is one of three things, and each page says which. A calorie or nutrient is Chipotle’s own record from its nutrition calculator (286 records read 26 September 2026) or its printed sheet (dated OCT-2024). An allergen mark is a row of its allergens and special diets chart (26 rows, four allergens and four diets) or, for the three live parts the chart has no row for, the calculator’s own tags, printed as tags. A plate’s total is a sum of those records, part by part, with every part named. Nothing is estimated and nothing is rounded beyond what the brand prints.

The chart, in the brand’s words

Every caveat the brand attaches to its own nutrition and allergen figures
Rule Chipotle’s own words Where
What it covers “No matter what your unique dietary needs are, Chipotle has options for you.” Chipotle allergens and special diets chart (chipotle.com/allergens)
Wheat and gluten “Wheat & Gluten categories are combined since all Chipotle gluten-containing items contain wheat.” Chipotle allergens and special diets chart (chipotle.com/allergens)
Sulphites “All sulphites present in Chipotle food items come exclusively from vinegar, in which sulphites occur naturally below the concentration (10 ppm) to be required as a listed ingredient under federal law. However, with an interest in transparency and for any customers with extreme sensitivities, we chose to label menu items containing vinegar as possible allergens.” Chipotle allergens and special diets chart (chipotle.com/allergens)
Cross-contact “Individual foods may come into contact with one another during preparation, which is not reflected on this chart.” Chipotle allergens and special diets chart (chipotle.com/allergens)
What is not used “Although we do not use eggs, mustard, peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, shellfish, or fish as ingredients in our food, Chipotle cannot guarantee the complete absence of these allergens in its restaurants.” Chipotle allergens and special diets chart (chipotle.com/allergens)
Limited time items “Additionally, limited time offerings or menu items in test may include one or more allergens, including allergens not identified on this page.” Chipotle allergens and special diets chart (chipotle.com/allergens)
Pork “FOR THOSE WHO AVOID PORK: Our carnitas are made with pork.” Chipotle allergens and special diets chart (chipotle.com/allergens)
Gluten “If you avoid gluten, don’t eat our flour tortillas. If you are highly sensitive to gluten and would like us to change our gloves, just let us know at the start of your order.” Chipotle allergens and special diets chart (chipotle.com/allergens)
Corn “You should be aware items containing corn, including corn tortillas (chips and crispy corn tortillas) and corn salsa, may have trace amounts of gluten from potentially co-mingling with gluten-containing grains in the field.” Chipotle allergens and special diets chart (chipotle.com/allergens)
Vegan “Our Sofritas is vegan and vegetarian approved. Vegans should avoid our meats, shredded Monterey Jack cheese, queso, sour cream, and chipotle-honey vinaigrette. Our tortillas, vegetables, rice, beans, salsas, chips and guacamole, are vegetarian and vegan.” Chipotle allergens and special diets chart (chipotle.com/allergens)
Before ordering “Before placing your order, please inform your server if a person in your party has a food allergy.” Chipotle printed nutrition facts sheet (PDF, October 2024)
Portions “Offerings may vary by location. Serving sizes are approximations only based on how menu items are usually prepared and may vary from order to order.” Chipotle printed nutrition facts sheet (PDF, October 2024)
Variation “Nutritional content may vary because of variations in portion size or recipes, changes in growing seasons, or differences in the sources of our ingredients. We may update this chart from time to time. 2,000 calories a day is used for general nutrition advice, but calorie needs vary.” Chipotle printed nutrition facts sheet (PDF, October 2024)

What this site does with them

  • An entree’s listed calories are the protein alone, because that is what the menu lists; every entree page says so and sums three builds from the parts.
  • A meal with a fixed build (the High Protein Menu, the featured builds, the family meals) is summed from the record of every part; when a part is a calories-only record the sum is marked partial and no nutrient is invented for it.
  • Allergen marks for a built plate are the union of the parts’ marks; a diet mark for a plate holds only if every part carries it. A family meal’s marks are the union of its eleven parts, never the protein’s alone.
  • The three parts with tags and no chart row (Chili Lime Chips, Cilantro Lime Sauce and Veggie (fajita veggies and guacamole)) show their tags labeled as tags; the one live items with neither (Pollo Asado) show no mark rather than a guess.
  • The daily values used for sodium (2,300 mg) and the rest are the FDA’s, linked on every page that uses them.
  • Cholesterol is on the printed sheet only; where a record has it the page prints it and says where it came from.

What this site will not do

It will not call a plate safe for an allergy, because the brand’s chart itself warns of cross-contact and of limited-time items with unlisted allergens; it prints the marks and the caveats and leaves the decision where the brand leaves it: “Before placing your order, please inform your server if a person in your party has a food allergy.” It will not adjust a figure, average two sources or fill a gap; a missing figure prints as missing. The allergen filter and gluten free tools filter by the marks under these rules.

Corrections

A figure that does not match the brand’s record on the read date is a defect; the corrections page says how to report one and how the fix is logged. When the brand changes a record, the next read changes the page, and the menu change log notes it.

How this page is read

Every calorie and nutrient figure on this page is Chipotle’s own record from its nutrition calculator, read 26 September 2026, or its printed sheet, summed part by part where a plate is summed and never adjusted. Every price is a range read from 368 restaurants’ own ordering menus on 25 September 2026, printed with the count behind it, and every allergen and diet mark is the brand’s own chart row or tag.

Questions

Where do the nutrition figures come from?

From Chipotle’s nutrition calculator, read 26 September 2026, one record per part, and its printed sheet dated OCT-2024; nothing is estimated.

Why does the menu show fewer calories than this site?

The menu lists the protein alone for an entree; this site sums the parts of a stated build from the same records.

Where do the allergen marks come from?

From the brand’s allergens and special diets chart, row by row; for three parts without a row, from the calculator’s tags, labeled as tags.

Does this site say an item is allergen safe?

No; it prints the brand’s marks and the brand’s caveats on cross-contact and limited-time items, and leaves the decision with the diner and the restaurant.

What does a partial sum mean?

One part of the build is a calories-only record (a double protein portion, a family kit portion), so its calories count and no nutrient is invented for it.

How are family meal allergens shown?

As the union of every part’s marks, never the protein’s alone.

What daily value is used for sodium?

The FDA’s 2,300 mg, linked on every page that uses it.

How do I report a wrong figure?

Through the corrections page; each fix is logged with its date.
