What the read shows
On 25 September 2026 an adult entree at Chipotle ran from $9.80 to $12.35 across 368 restaurants at the medians, $10.40 at the middle of the range, and the restaurant’s own price sat anywhere between $8.45 and $14.65. The chicken burrito’s state medians ran from $9.18 in Kansas to $11.15 in New York. Those are the figures; whether they are expensive depends on what you compare them with, and this page lays out the comparisons the menus themselves allow.
Where the bill grows at the counter
The entree price includes every topping, so a chicken burrito with rice, beans, salsa, cheese and lettuce is $9.80 at the median. The bill grows only with the four priced add-ons: $2.95 for guacamole, $1.70 for queso blanco and $4.00 to $6.00 for a second portion of protein. A loaded chicken burrito with guacamole, queso and a second portion of chicken is $18.45 at the medians, $8.65 above the entree, which is where the twenty-dollar burrito comes from. Delivery is the other multiplier: the brand’s own delivery menu prices the chicken burrito at $12.75, 30.1 percent above pickup, and the checkout adds service fees on top. “Higher menu prices are charged for delivery; additional service and other fees applied at checkout as well (except in CA, CO, CT, MA, MN and VA).”
Against fast food
The sister site read 452 Taco Bell restaurants on 19 September 2026: its Cantina Chicken Burrito was $6.77 at the median against $9.80 for the Chipotle chicken burrito, and its Cantina Chicken Bowl $8.69 against $9.80. Per 10 g of protein the Chipotle classic chicken bowl is $1.88 and the Taco Bell bowl $3.34, so the gap narrows when the plate is weighed rather than counted. The Chipotle against Taco Bell page has six like pairs.
What the brand says it pays for
The brand does not explain its prices on any page read; it describes what it buys. “Being real means we only use 53 ingredients you can pronounce”. “No Antibiotics Ever for beef and chicken supplied to Chipotle”. “47+ million pounds of local produce purchased in 2024.” Its wage line: “We pay all entry-level hourly restaurant employees above the federal minimum wage, and at or above state or local minimum wages where applicable.” Those are claims about inputs, not a price justification, and this site prints them as the brand’s words.
How to spend less at the same counter
- Order pickup rather than delivery: $9.80 against $12.75 for the chicken burrito at the medians, before fees.
- Take the veggie burrito or bowl if you want guacamole: the brand includes it there, $2.95 saved against any other entree.
- Chicken, Sofritas and the veggie option share the lowest price; steak and barbacoa cost $2.00 more.
- A double protein bowl at $13.80 is the menu’s own 8 oz of protein, the bowl plus the add-on to the cent; the double protein page compares it with the High Protein Cup.
- Chipotle Rewards pays ten points a dollar in the brand’s words (“Every dollar spent on your real food faves gets you 10 points closer to your next reward.”), and the sign-up reward is chips and guac worth $4.90 at the median; the rewards points page does the arithmetic.

How this page is read
Every price on this page is a range read from 368 restaurants’ own ordering menus in 48 states and DC on 25 September 2026, printed with the count of restaurants behind it and the brand’s own delivery price beside it; every calorie and nutrient figure is Chipotle’s own record from its nutrition calculator, and every allergen mark is its own chart row or tag.
Questions
Is Chipotle expensive?
An adult entree was $9.80 to $12.35 at the medians on 25 September 2026 across 368 restaurants, $10.40 in the middle; against Taco Bell’s Cantina Chicken Burrito at $6.77 it is $3.03 more for a chicken burrito. Whether that is expensive is yours to weigh; the figures are here.
Why is a Chipotle burrito twenty dollars?
Because of add-ons and delivery, not the entree: the chicken burrito is $9.80 at the median, guacamole, queso and a second portion of chicken add $8.65, and the brand’s delivery menu prices the entree alone at $12.75 before fees.
Did Chipotle raise prices in 2026?
This site’s read of 25 September 2026 is its baseline; the price change log records every move in a read median from here on, and the price history guide lists what the brand itself has published with a price.
Which state is cheapest?
$9.18 in Kansas for the chicken burrito at the state median, against $11.15 in New York at the dearest; the nine-item basket ran from $63.31 in Kansas to $74.80 in New York.
Is Chipotle cheaper than Cava or Qdoba?
This site compares only what it has read from the brands’ own menus; Taco Bell is on the Taco Bell comparison page and Qdoba and Moe’s follow when their reads are done.
Does the app charge more than the counter?
The ordering menus read carry one pickup price and one delivery price per restaurant; the delivery price is the higher one, 30.1 percent above pickup at the median across the entrees.
Are Chipotle prices different in different states?
Yes. The chicken burrito median runs from $9.18 in Kansas to $11.15 in New York across the states read, and the nine-item basket from $63.31 in Kansas to $74.80 in New York. Within a state the restaurants read differ too: the burrito’s national range is $8.45 to $12.10.
Does Chipotle give a military, senior or student discount?
No standing discount for any group appears on the brand’s pages read. On military discounts its own answer is: “Chipotle does not offer a traditional, always-on military discount, but they do occasionally run special promotions or appreciation events for military members.” Students have a program rather than a discount: “Members score 1,000 bonus points when they sign up and earn 20% more points with every purchase, helping them get free Chipotle faster.”
Why does the same burrito cost more in one restaurant than another?
The brand prices by restaurant, and its own footnotes say so (“Pricing & availability vary by location.”). The read shows it: 30 price points for the chicken burrito across 368 restaurants, $8.45 to $12.10. Rent, wages and local costs are the usual reasons named, but the brand publishes no breakdown, so this site prints the reads and not a theory.
What does Chipotle pay its crew, and does that set the price?
The brand says only this about pay: “We pay all entry-level hourly restaurant employees above the federal minimum wage, and at or above state or local minimum wages where applicable.” It publishes no wage table and no link between wages and menu prices, so none is drawn here.
Is steak worth the extra at Chipotle?
Steak carries $2.00 more than chicken at the median on every format ($11.80 against $9.80 for a burrito). Per the brand’s records the 4 oz of steak is 150 calories and 21 g of protein against 180 and 32 g for chicken, so the premium buys a different cut rather than more protein; the chicken against steak comparison has the whole panel.
